Schemes Insurance Senior Underwriter

We are looking to recruit a Senior Commercial Insurance Underwriter who will provide leadership and technical knowledge to our clients underwriting team. You will have 3 direct reports and have end to end exposure of our client’s insurance products and you will support the business in meetings their goals by managing existing insurer relationship in order to develop existing and new schemes, reviewing existing and new scheme business to secure that they continue to act within the binder authority set buy the insurer.

Manage, train and mentor the underwriting team, check that all quotations, renewals and mid-term adjustments are processed within the terms of the binder agreement. Produce, review and check upcoming renewals across all schemes.

To be considered for the role the successful candidate will be Cert CII qualified, studying towards Dip CII or ACII is desirable. You will have a minimum of 5 years previous experience of commercial insurance broking/underwriting experience where you have worked for an insurer, MGA or an insurance broker. 

We are looking for a commercial focused, effective leader who is comfortable at making decision.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Underwriting team to ensure team objectives, SLA’s and KPI’s are met

  • Review and check new business quotations for the Sales Team to ensure that these are provided within the terms of the Binding Agreement set by insurers

  • Review and check renewal terms and mid-term adjustments for the Customer Service Team to ensure that these are provided within the terms of the Binding Agreement set by insurers

  • Produce, check and review and upcoming renewals. Ensure renewals are generated, reviewed, referred and sent within SLA time frames

  • Manage own workload and take responsibility for the more technically complex cases

  • To assist with the underwriting of scheme and placement of non-scheme business

  • To act as a technical referral point for colleagues and provide coaching and guidance where necessary

  • Ensure the audit programme is delivered within agreed timescales

  • Ensure all customer complaints are resolved in a way that treats the customer fairly at all times.

  • Manage existing insurer relationships and forming relationships with new insurers to develop new and existing schemes.

  • Assist with additional project work in the development of new schemes including competitor analysis

  • Demonstrate an excellent knowledge of our products and a well-developed ability to follow processes

  • Prepare and submit details of risks written to insurers on a monthly basis in the required format

  • Ensure customers are treated fairly
