An excellent job opportunity has arisen with our client who is a growing and successful Global Insurer, who has UK wide offices and looking to recruit a Senior Risk Officer to join their expanding business. 

The role can be based out of their London or Kent based offices.

The role will report into the Chief Governance Officer and you will be the Key Function Holder for risk and responsibility for the risk management frameworks, policies and procedures and owning Solvency II risk requirements.

Collaboratively with the business, you will provide training and support, to develop the companies capabilities around risk governance and decision processes aligned with the companies risk strategy.

You will assist senior management with integrating risk management with business strategy thought he ORSA and ensure appropriate risk reporting is management.  

You will liaise with internal and external Auditors as appropriate, attend Risk Committees and liaise with US parent on Group risk matters.

You will lead, motivate and develop the small Risk team.

The role offers variety, ownership and the opportunity to get involved in key projects and initiatives across the business and would suit a senior risk professional who enjoys assisting the Board and senior management to establish, embed and communicate risk management objectives; is comfortable managing and being part of a small team and wants to keep a hands-on approach to day-to-day risk management

The role involves some travel including to other offices in the UK. You will also be required to spend regular time in Malta.

The successful candidate will have proven risk management experience gained from the insurance industry. A good working knowledge of Solvency II and its subsequent management is essential as is a commercial approach to risk and regulation.

You will have a solid understanding of FCA and PRA regulations, principles and codes of practice, and up-to-date knowledge of trends in the insurance industry relevant to risk management and corporate governance requirements.

As you will be liaising with all levels to deliver risk principles across the business, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, combined with a flair for relationship building are essential as is the ability to take decisions and influence key decision-makers up to board level. You must be able to understand broad business issues, grasp complex issues and be effective and confident in communicating complex messages, both in writing and verbally.

With excellent time management skills and the tenacity to achieve tight deadlines, you are able to work on your own initiative. Experience of leading, managing and developing a small team is desirable

To be considered for the role you will Ideally hold

  1. An Insurance Risk Management qualification eg ACII.
  2. Have proven risk management experience, including knowledge of risk management governance and controls
  3. A strong understanding of Solvency II and proficient with the ORSA process
  4. Commercial awareness
  5. In depth technical knowledge of UK and EU regulatory requirements
  6. In in depth knowledge of FCA, PRA and ICOBS regulations and guidelines within the insurance industry across a range of geographies
