We are supporting our client to recruit a personal lines underwriter to join their growing underwriting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an Underwriter looking to develop their technical expertise within a supportive and collaborative MGA 

environment.

The successful Personal Lines Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting new business and renewal home insurance risks, supporting travel insurance referrals and contributing towards product governance and underwriting performance activities. This underwriter position offers genuine career progression, comprehensive training and the opportunity to work with a growing business during an exciting period of expansion.

Whilst previous home insurance or travel insurance experience would be highly desirable, we are also interested in speaking with candidates who have underwriting or delegated authority experience across personal lines, property, commercial insurance, non-standard motor insurance or other non-standard insurance product classes.

Full product training can be provided for candidates with strong underwriting fundamentals who are keen to build a long-term career as a personal lines underwriter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new business and renewal Home Insurance & Travel Insurance risks
  • Assess non-standard household and travel insurance risks
  • Analyse claims history, property construction, occupancy and risk exposure
  • Handle Travel Insurance referrals and technical underwriting queries
  • Make underwriting decisions within delegated authority limits
  • Support product governance and Consumer Duty requirements
  • Monitor underwriting performance and portfolio trends
  • Build strong relationships with brokers, intermediaries and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and documentation
  • Support underwriting strategy and continuous improvement initiatives

To be successful in this underwriter role, you will ideally have:

  • At least 2 years' insurance experience of underwriting or delegated authority experience ideally within household or other non-standard classes of insurance 
  • Strong risk assessment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • You'll reside in a commutable distance to Manchester and be motivated to work on a remote basis, which will progress into a hybrid working arrangement. 
  • The ability to work independently within a remote environment
  • A desire to continue developing your underwriting knowledge and technical expertise
