Our client is a successful and growing independent insurance business, employing approximately 46 people and managing £28 million GWP.
Operating within a modern, technology-led insurance and insurtech environment, the business continues to invest in its people, systems, regulatory framework and operational infrastructure.
As part of this growth, they are creating a brand-new position for a Compliance & Operations Project Manager.
This is not a traditional compliance-only role. We are looking for a hands-on, organised and commercially minded individual who enjoys taking ownership of projects, bringing structure to ideas and ensuring actions are successfully delivered.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the senior leadership team and colleagues across the business, you will manage and support projects spanning:
Compliance | Consumer Duty | Operations | Governance | Systems | Processes | Business Change | Continuous Improvement
You could be coordinating several priorities at any one time – establishing project plans, documenting requirements, bringing stakeholders together, monitoring actions and deadlines, and ensuring projects progress successfully from discussion through to implementation.
A key part of the role will involve supporting the business with its ongoing regulatory responsibilities, including FCA Consumer Duty, helping ensure appropriate processes, evidence, management information and customer outcome considerations are embedded throughout the organisation.
For someone with around 2–3+ years' experience within a regulated environment who is ready to take on greater responsibility and exposure, this could be an excellent career move.
What You'll Be Doing
- Manage and coordinate operational, compliance and business improvement projects from concept through to implementation.
- Create clear project plans, actions, responsibilities, timelines and deliverables.
- Take ownership of projects and ensure agreed actions remain on track.
- Support the ongoing implementation and embedding of Consumer Duty and good customer outcomes.
- Coordinate Consumer Duty reviews, actions, evidence and management information.
- Work across departments, bringing together stakeholders and ensuring effective communication.
- Support wider regulatory and compliance initiatives, ensuring appropriate documentation and controls are completed.
- Review existing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness.
- Help document and implement new procedures, workflows and internal controls.
- Support projects involving technology, systems, data and operational change.
- Coordinate project meetings, actions and updates, ensuring effective follow-through.
- Assist with governance, reporting and maintaining accurate project and compliance documentation.
- Work closely with senior management on wider strategic and operational initiatives.
- Turn business challenges and ideas into structured, practical and deliverable plans.
What We're Looking For
Ideally, you will have around 2–3+ years' experience working within a regulated environment, with experience or exposure across project management, operations, compliance, governance, regulatory change or business improvement.
Previous general insurance, insurtech or financial services experience would be particularly advantageous, although candidates from other regulated sectors will also be considered.
You do not necessarily need to be a technical compliance specialist. We are equally interested in individuals who have coordinated regulatory projects, implemented processes, gathered evidence, produced management information, managed actions or supported operational change.
You will ideally demonstrate:
- Experience managing or coordinating projects within a regulated environment.
- Knowledge or practical exposure to FCA regulation and Consumer Duty.
- Strong organisational and project management capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
- Understanding of governance, controls and regulatory documentation.
- Confidence communicating with stakeholders at different levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail combined with commercial awareness.
- Confidence to challenge, ask questions and drive actions forward.
- A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership.
- An interest in technology, systems and process improvement.
- Flexibility to work within a growing SME where priorities can evolve quickly.
A law degree, legal background or recognised project management qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
