Assistant Marine Underwriter – Near Gatwick – up to £35,000 DOE

Our client is a leading insurer in its field and due to growth is seeking an experienced insurance professional to join their team.

If you have insurance experience and have key attributes as someone who is logical and analytical, and able to look at a broker presentation and understand what is being asked for and what information is missing. Someone with an enquiring mind and who is interested in learning and willing to be self-motivated in that, keen to go and look things up when they don’t understand them etc. There will be very good training given, but a real interest in the matter will be necessary too.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Assist with the leading and underwriting of all Binding Authority, Delegated Authority Agreements and Lineslips. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

•             Underwriting experience (preferred but not essential)

•             At least 4 years of insurance industry experience

•             Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

•             Strong administrative skills

•             Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise with efficiency and effectiveness

•             Strong relationship management, building supportive and professional relationships with  others

•             The ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team

•             The ability to make decisions and use a strong sense of initiative

•             Excellent MS office skills, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

•             A key eye for detail

•             Inquisitive and keen to learn

•             Assertive, confident and enthusiastic approach upholding the company values

KEY OUTPUTS:  

Act as a representative for the interest of the scheme Underwriters/Security, within the Company. Working independently from the direct client service and new business teams with responsibility for technical underwriting management of Binding Authority and/or Delegated Underwriting Authority facilities within the Company, including monitoring and evaluating existing and new business, technical and financial performance of the schemes by way of periodic analysis of the scheme performance, underwriting profitability, loss ratio analysis and monitoring as well as technical data analysis to aid underwriting decisions and rating

Responsible for the development, negotiation and profitable underwriting of new and existing business. 

Maintain a close working relationship with the representative of each scheme’s Insurer Underwriting Management.  Refer and negotiate risks falling outside of the delegated/binding authority limits or parameters

Manage administration of the scheme facilities, including the monitoring of bordereaux and accounting submissions, to ensure compliance with the terms of the Binding Authority agreements.  Facilitate periodic audit as required by the lead underwriters

Maintain a contemporary knowledge of the current Marine Insurance market, competition and technical trends or cover factors.  Ensure that the schemes keep pace with the wider marine insurance market in terms of cover and premium rating

Develop and monitor all internal procedures and systems to ensure quality of underwriting information and compliance
